Description:

This internship is part of the Summer 2025 Professional Internship Program. To be eligible for the program you must:

  • Be enrolled as an SUU student during the course of the internship.
  • Have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Be willing to work 10 to 20 hours per week.
  • Provide thoughtful responses in your application.

Description:

The Non-Traditional Peer Mentor is responsible for being able to put themselves in our student’s shoes and advocate/mentor them as necessary.

  • Be patient, empathetic, and be passionately communicative. Excellent service standards are crucial to our organization.
  • Exemplify personality with a dynamic professional attitude towards our students and provide friendly service and solid student support.
  • Be confident at troubleshooting and investigate if they do not have enough information to resolve the problem.
  • This position is responsible for ensuring that all tasks relating to the office and the programs we offer are completed accurately and in a timely manner, and requires coordinating with various individuals and organizations both on and off campus.
  • Assists with marketing, event planning and execution, social media, data collection.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a positive role model and provide guidance, support, and encouragement to mentees.
  • Assist new students in their transition by sharing knowledge, resources, and personal experiences.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes student success and engagement.
  • Facilitate regular check-ins and meetings with mentees to discuss academic, personal, and professional goals.
  • Connect students to campus resources, organizations, and support services.
  • Encourage skill development in areas such as time management, study strategies, and goal setting.
  • Communicate effectively with mentees and program coordinators to ensure a meaningful mentoring experience.
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance mentoring effectiveness.
  • Help plan and lead peer mentor activities, workshops, and events.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.

  • Ability to function in a group, both as a leader and a supportive team member
  • Excellent people and communication skills, as well as technical writing skills
